New-Hampshire has a remarkable constitution, but it's state government has,
like most, run off with a lot of the people's rights.
Our constitution puts it's 39 articles in the Bill of Rights first (Part
First) to emphasize that the people's rights come first! Then, only after that
is Part Second, Form of Government written - this part describes the detailed
layout of a governmental structure whose only function should be to protect
those rights outlined in Part First. Of course, it doesn't always work like
that in practice, hence this project.
Some envision re-claiming their rights by "tightening up" the stated
rights with some minor amendments that will make it clearer that their purpose
is to protect the people!
Some of these ideas will be introduced into the New-Hampshire General Court
in its next session. We'll keep you abreast of these items as they progress.
